The last post began my story on making our daughter’s wedding dress. As I recorded, I have lost photos of the process and now just left with the beginning and the end. The life circumstances that were taking place meant that the final making of the dress had to take place the night before the wedding!
The photos below show the finished silk and chiffon dress prior to adding the beaded bodice.
The bodice itself was crafted from a very expensive piece of material! (No, I did not bead by hand- that would have taken me years!). As you can imagine it had to be added by hand and carefully fit to ensure it sat well.
And then I had to add tiny bead buttons and create handmade button holes as this was the request. Labour of love? Yes it was and a total privilege to make.
The final joy was helping her get ready the next morning and float down the stairs.
(and if you look carefully, the quilt is on the wall behind her…).
Unfinished business? Another step completed here. There are more things I have been working on that will come soon but, for now, I can tick this one off my list.
Oh Jenny, the photos made me cry. What an utterly beautiful dress, made all the more so because there is love in every stitch. And, in reference to your first post – imagine the joy of owning a fabric store – how glorious that would be to go to work each morning selling beautiful materials and other sewing supplies to people.
